The apartment building is located right in the heart of Aberdovey, opposite the Yacht club and the beach. There is one pedestrian crossing in the village and the building is on the right just after the crossing, when you come in from Machynlleth. (The bottom left apartment on the picture).

You can park to unload in the layby opposite, but then you will need to move your car. We have provided a car park pass which can be used in 2 car parks in Aberdovey (left in the apartment for you) or you can park for free in certain places – either up Copperhill Street, beyond the railway bridge, where there are often
spaces along the roadside, or down on the front opposite the main church & Britannia Inn. (Not the spaces at an angle marked 45 mins max!).

The car park permit is valid in both the Beach and Penhelyg pay & display car parks in Aberdovey.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO LEAVE THE CAR PARK PASS ON THE TABLE WHEN YOU LEAVE FOR THE NEXT GUESTS AS A REPLACEMENT COSTS £50.

You can obtain the keys from a key safe located below the building next to the Cellar Bistro carefully go down the right hand steps and you will see two key safes on the wall Westhaven One is the one nearest the bistro door simply enter the code given to you.

PLEASE REPLACE THE KEYS TO THE SAME LOCATION YOU OBTAINED THEM WHEN YOU LEAVE Please remember to lock the doors, close windows and turn off all light switches, whenever you leave the property. The apartment door does need to be locked with the key.

Household waste: The bin is directly opposite the apartment – the key is on the key rack in the kitchen – a large utility key with a triangular end.

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ANY CRABBING GEAR OR BEACH STUFF IN THE MAIN ENTRANCE AREA.

The Wi-Fi hub is BTHub6-M6CN and the passcode is pwiDRPL4b94T..

All bed linen, towels and tea towels are provided for you.
There is a double bed in the main bedroom and a king-size bed in the second bedroom. In the lounge there are 2 double sized bed settees. We’ll have asked you which beds you require when booking, but if your needs change, do let us know, so we can organise the correct bedding.

There is a tumble dryer, washing machine, iron, ironing board and rechargeable hoover in the utility cupboard nearest to the kitchen.

Kitchen
There is a Rangemaster double oven with gas hob and electric oven. The American style fridge freezer has a cold water and ice dispenser (switch the ice maker off at night if using the sofa beds in the lounge as it can be quite noisy!).

There is a Tassimo pod coffee machine if you want to bring pods with you – they can also be bought at the Co-op in Machynlleth or Tywyn.

There is also a dishwasher, microwave, kettle and toaster. Note – the dishwasher on/off switch only works when wedged down on the right side with a bit of paper – please leave it like this!

Please feel free to use anything that is in the cupboards and just replace anything substantial.

Living room
There is a SMART TV with Netflix, BT Sports and TV package. Simply press the power buttons on both remotes and wait for everything to upload. Make sure you are on Source HDMI 2. Once this is done you just need the BT control to operate. We also have a Netflix account for you to use – the email address is lisafrench@hotmail.com and the password is aberlovely – then choose Westhaven. To use the 2 double sofa beds you will need to move the coffee table and move the settee into the desired position, then simply remove the cushions and extend it out. The table in the window does extend out if you need a bigger table. In the corner of the lounge you’ll see a telephone mounted on the wall – this enables you to let people in through the main front door when they press button 1 on the keypad outside. Lift the telephone and press the button with a key symbol on it – there will be a buzz heard outside which means you can push the door open.

Please remember to close the windows if you’ve had them open.

Bedrooms
The main bedroom has a double bed, built-in wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside cabinet and an en-suite bathroom. There is a dressing table with a hairdryer (in the drawer underneath or maybe in the bedside tables). Under the bedside table you will find a small wicker basket with emergency toiletries in if you have forgotten anything. There is a Smart TV too but no BT TV – just Freeview and Netflix. There are several spare pillows and quilts in the cupboards.

The second bedroom has a king-sized bed and bedside table with a built-in wardrobe and wall mounted mirror.
There isn’t a lot to see out of the door in the second bedroom, but please leave the key in the door as it does serve as a fire escape.

Bathroom
The bathroom window is best always left on vent even when you leave; to keep it aired.

FUSE BOX
Location: As you enter the apartment, in the cupboard opposite the door.

There are lots of great places to eat out, but you will have to book well in advance in the summer. Our favourites in Aberdovey are the Penhelig Arms in the Fisherman’s Bar (dogs allowed) and Seabreeze (no dogs). The Coast Deli (dogs allowed) on the corner does great breakfasts and a varied evening meal menu, but be aware there’s no toilet on site, so you will have to pop over the road to the public toilets if needed. If you want pub grub then the Dovey Inn (dogs allowed on the hard floor area) and the Britannia Inn (dogs allowed in bar but not the restaurant) both have good varied menus. If the weather is nice leave time to have a drink on the Britannia balcony it’s beautiful.

The Bear of Amsterdam next to the Dovey Inn serves a range of traditional British fayre. The Medina Coffee Shop is hidden up an alleyway next to the Pharmacy – they do fabulous sandwiches and lovely breakfasts, lunches and cakes too we recommend their chicken, apricot and walnut sandwiches and the egg mayonnaise with crispy bacon!

The fish & chip shop lets you eat in or take-away and has a very extensive menu – be prepared to queue in the evening as it gets very busy in the peak times.

There are a number of good restaurants in Tywyn now – our favourite being The Salt Marsh Kitchen which has won several awards and their sister business across the road, The Salt Marsh Café (great for home-made burgers, pizzas and cocktails). For a special treat, there is the Michelin Star award winning Ynyshir between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth and in Aberystwyth there is a fabulous Italian deli restaurant called Ultracomida.

If you want to do an online shop before you arrive, both Asda and Tesco deliver to Aberdovey, but we do hope guests support the local shops where possible. There is a reasonably well stocked shop on the front – Aberdovey Village Stores – as well as a Post Office/ General Stores just past the railway bridge (the bridge you can see from the park at the end of the beach). There are 2 good sized Co-op stores – one in Machynlleth and one in Tywyn (the Tywyn store will deliver your shopping for you if you don’t want to bring it back yourself, – handy if you’re walking along the beach! 

If you need cash, there is a cash machine by the pedestrian crossing in the village, but it charges for withdrawals. You can get free cashback at the Post Office (mentioned above) and we’re told that both The Dovey and Britannia both do cashback, but we’ve never tried. The nearest free Bank cash machine is Tywyn, then Aberystwyth, as Barmouth and Machynlleth have lost theirs now. 

The Coast Deli sells bread, eggs and milk as well as lovely cheeses etc and there’s a great butcher yards from the cottage – their Laverbread Sausage and Shortback bacon are both delicious! Dovey Marine sell all sorts of beach stuff including the Aberdovey Crabbing Crew T-Shirts and hoodies as well as hardware, logs and firelighters.

• If you’re in Aberdovey for a while it’s well worth using the trains to visit the surrounding areas, if you’re only there a short while there’s plenty to do in the village J 

• Go crabbing on the jetty… bait is available at the butchers, the RNLI shop at the lifeboat station, Dia’s fish shed and the gift shops. 

• Visitors are welcome to try sea rowing at the rowing club at 10.00 Sat morning (take £3) meet on the jetty in front of the blue double doors 

• Go to the Literary Institute (on the right-hand side on the way to the Penhelig Arms – look for the anchor at the front) and read a book or use the free Wi-Fi overlooking the sea (wet days?) 

• Go to the Penhelig Arms and have a meal in the Fisherman’s bar 

• Play golf at Aberdovey Golf Club 

• Play bowls, putting or tennis at Aberdovey Bowls Club 

• Use the putting green or tennis courts at The Trefeddian Hotel, they simply ask that you buy a drink in return. 

• Opposite the Penhelig Hotel you will find The Roman Road – just walk along the lovely row of houses until you reach a gate to the park, step through the gate then walk along until you see a path along the cliff side, it’s such a pretty walk with steps cut into the rocks up to picnic island. 

• Enjoy a drink upstairs on the balcony at the Britannia Inn,
watching the boats go by it’s the best seat in Aberdovey!

• Choose an ice-cream from the many flavours at the Pink ice cream shop you can ask for half and half if like us you find it hard to choose! 

• Jump off the jetty at high tide- you’ve not really visited Aberdovey if you don’t do this! 

• Have a latte and cake at the Medina Coffee shop up the little alley next to the Pharmacy 

• Build a fire on the beach with driftwood at night near the sand dunes and toast marshmallows or eat fish & chips

• Have BBQ or picnic on the beach  

• Walk the four miles along the beach to Tywyn. It’s around four miles there or get the train for around £2.60 return!

• Go to Magic Lantern cinema in Tywyn – it’s like stepping back in time! 

• Visit Portmeirion by train or car it’s a great day out ( no dogs allowed) 

• In Tywyn, we love eating at the Salt Marsh Kitchen – they do a pre-Cinema menu if you’re going to The Magic Lantern. They also own the Salt Marsh Café opposite, which makes great home-made burgers & pizzas, with Sunday lunch available all-day Sunday and great cocktails with a Happy Hour in the evening. 

• Play Tennis, Crazy Golf, Shuffleboard, Table Tennis or Quoits at the municipal park in Tywyn 

• Go to swimming pool in Tywyn – they do family float fun sessions and a gym 

• Go and see the waterfalls at Dolgoch – you can pick up the Tal y-Llyn railway in Tywyn to Abergynolwyn, which passes over the path to the falls. It’s a beautiful walk, but not suitable for very small children or pushchairs, as there are some steep drops. 

• Go to the Honey Ice Cream shop in Tywyn it has the loveliest whippy ice cream made with honey and fruit with fab toppings 

• Go to the Craft Centre at Corris – there’s a Gin distillery, Welsh Jewellery shop, wooden crafts and children can make and paint pottery, candles and chocolate bars. There’s also an underwater boat ride through caves – King Arthur’s Labyrinth
(they don’t open in the winter months, so check online before you set off) 

• Eat at Blasau (The Royal House) in Machynlleth – lovely little black and white painted deli/coffee shop right by Charlie’s Emporium just past the clock tower they have great Vegan food 

• Visit old curiosity shops & Ian Snow shop in Machynlleth for lots of lovely trinkets and gifts 

• The Rendezvous Café on the left of the High St – about halfway as you go up – has a lovely lounge hidden away at the back, with sofas and a cosy fireplace to enjoy your lunch. They specialise in locally grown produce and vegetarian & health foods. 

• Take the train to Harlech and see the castle and lovely little shops in the square 

• Get the train out to Fairbourne and eat at Indiana Cuisine – it’s a real find if you’re into good Indian food. You’ll need to book ahead 01341 250891. The train stops a minute’s walk away! 

• Take the train along the coast to Minfford and visit Portmeirion – it only takes 1hour 40 mins and is such a lovely journey. There’s a bit of a walk (1 mile) up to the village but it’s worth the effort – it’s such a magical place to visit for all the family. You can ask for a Ranger ticket on the train which means you can stop off at Barmouth or Harlech on your way back too. 

• Go to Barmouth for the day (you can park at Fairbourne – follow signs for steam railway – & get the water taxi across the bay) – try the Mermaid Fish & Chip shop near the railway station. 

• For bird enthusiasts & RSPB members there are several places to go –
– Just out of Machynlleth, on the road towards Aberystwyth is the Osprey Centre – the guides are very knowledgeable
– 10 miles east of Aberystwyth on the A44 you can see the Red Kites being fed – 2 pm daily and 3 pm when it’s British Summer Time
– There is a RSPB reserve at Yn-Y-Shir (also on the road from Machynlleth to Aberystwyth)
